Understanding Uplink Routers: Pre-Registered, Registered, Verified
Uplink changes how the world thinks about internet connectivity. As the first decentralized ecosystem of its kind, Uplink allows individuals to turn their existing Wi-Fi routers into contributors to a global network— earning rewards and expanding internet access in the process! If you’ve seen terms like Pre-Registered, Registered, or Verified Routers in the Uplink App or Explorer and would like to learn more about them, this guide is for you.
What is a Pre-Registered Router?
During Uplink’s beta launch, community members worldwide helped lay the early foundation of the network by pre-registering their routers’ locations via the Uplink Explorer. These routers were added to the map as placeholders for future connectivity, allowing our team to identify areas of interest and prepare for our broader rollout.
Pre-registering was a great way for early adopters to earn bonus points and help map the future of Uplink. While it no longer earns rewards, you can still mark your spot on the coverage map. Most importantly, full registration for your router is live and the best way to start stacking daily points!

What is a Registered Router?
With our official app now live, you can register routers across the world. Registration is simple: download the Uplink App, enable location sharing in app settings, connect to a Wi-Fi network, and click “Register”. Once registration is confirmed, you’ll earn 50,000 Uplink points which your router will receive for each 24 hours that it remains connected to the network. Stay connected to increase future utility on the network.

What is a Verified Router?
A Verified Router is one that’s actively contributing bandwidth to Uplink’s network. Today, these are router locations provided via the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) OpenRoaming network. Each of these routers is fully integrated, live, and providing public connectivity. This feature will be available for users to complete during our upcoming testnet phase.
Verified routers will be the backbone of Uplink’s real-time network, providing seamless connectivity and free Wi-Fi access to users around the globe! There are more than three million OpenRoaming routers ready to provide connectivity as part of our network, and we need our community to help map them– that’s where router registration and scanning comes in! As more verified routers are connected, the Uplink network will become even stronger and more resilient. Tools and solutions to transition every router in our community into a Verified Router so that they can contribute fully to the network will be provided as the platform continues to develop and grow.
